Federal Government Saving Koalas Grant – Mountain Range Koala Corridor Habitat and Connectivity Enhancement Project
This joint project between Koala Action Inc. and City of Moreton Bay Council achieved the following outcomes:
- Pre – restoration thermal koala drone survey – November 2023
- detected 18 adult koalas (4 of these were female with back riding joeys) across the project footprint.
- Restoration activities targeting the removal of Lantana (Lantana camara) thickets – January 2024 – February 2025
- removed 22 hectares of lantana across the project footprint
- Post – restoration thermal koala drone survey – April 2025
- detected 11 adult koalas (one of the females was observed with a large joey).
- Education
- 2 days at the Samford Show to raise awareness about koalas in the area and the issue associated with Lantana
- Letter to 375 properties
- Acknowledging the funding provided by the Federal Government and Koala Action Inc to deliver this project
- Results of the drone surveys (map below)

- Keep an eye out for koalas on your property
- Be on the lookout for koalas and other wildlife while driving especially between dusk and dawn
- Manage invasive weeds such as lantana on your property – a copy of the State Government’s Lantana factsheet was included
- Be a responsible dog owner
- If you find a koala on your property keep your dogs contained so the koala can safely move through
- When in public:
- Keep your dog on lead
- Pick up waste
- Follow local dog regulations
